EDUCATING FOR THE FUTURE
The learning journey at St Finbar's honours the developmental stages in a student’s life. Based on leading educational research and the best of today’s technologies, we prepare students for the future by teaching them how to think critically and creatively, how to communicate effectively and how to lead and work both independently and collaboratively.
EDUCATING FOR THE FUTURE
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
As a Catholic school we also have a strong religious dimension that runs through all the KLAs and is also formally recognised as the KLA of Religious Education.
St Finbar's students take part in formal Religious Education every day, based on the new Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese curriculum, Encountering Jesus. This curriculum invites all students to consider how the teachings of Jesus Christ can apply to their lives.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
St Finbar's offers a rigorous and contemporary curriculum centred on each child's needs.
Students are challenged to meet their full potential in a supportive learning community. They are empowered to ask questions, learn from mistakes, and reflect on their learning journey.
We aim to develop students to become lifelong learners and critical thinkers.
We have a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy, and our inspiring STEM program prepares the next generation for tomorrow's world.
LITERACY
Strong literacy skills form the basis of all learning. That’s why we have solid emphasis on reading and writing. We use the Focus160 framework that ensures at least 100 minutes of literacy instruction each day.
Our Reading Recovery program provides early intervention for Year 1 students with literacy challenges. With individualised support from a specialist teacher, children can quickly become confident readers and writers.
NUMERACY
St Finbar's students receive a strong foundation in mathematics. They participate in at least 60 minutes of numeracy instruction every day, as part of the Focus160 framework.
Extending Mathematical Understanding (EMU) program is available for Years 1 and 3 students with numeracy difficulties.
STEM
Across two terms of the year, students at St Finbar's receive a one hour weekly lesson across the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum.
Our STEM program is an essential area of study that foster students’ skills and prepare them to participate in a rapidly changing world.
ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
The Simmons Collective Program offers targeted academic opportunities for students with strong abilities. It provides additional enrichment and learning challenges with an emphasis on personal growth.
The program is proudly named after Professor Michelle Yvonne Simmons, the 2018 Australian of the Year.
INDIGENOUS IMMERSION
Our Indigenous Immersion Program draws on outcomes from the English, Creative Arts and HSIE Syllabus; integrating the teaching of the key concepts of Country and Place, Culture and People with K–6 content and outcomes. We offer a varied curriculum that is engaging and relevant!
